Sodepur flyover to shut every weekend from July 19 for urgent structural repairs
Five individuals have been arrested in connection with the attack on West Bengal Library Minister Siddiqullah Chowdhury on Thursday in the Manteswar area of East Bardhaman. The arrests were made by Manteswar police, and the accused are scheduled to be produced before the Kalna court on Friday. Local sources identified the arrested persons as known workers or supporters of the Trinamool Congress in the region.
The incident occurred when the minister arrived in Manteswar, his assembly constituency, for a scheduled meeting. As his convoy reached the Manteswar market area, a group of protestors surrounded the vehicles, carrying black flags, brooms, bricks, and sticks.
The protestors allegedly vandalised the minister's vehicle and raised slogans such as "Chittingbaaz-Dhapabaaz" and shouted "Go Back." Siddiqullah Chowdhury claimed that the police remained silent observers throughout the attack. He stated that if his party did not take appropriate action in the matter, he would organise a protest rally in Kolkata on July 10.
